Jeffrey Epstein : America’s Worst Rags to Riches Story

Who Was Jeffrey Epstein?

Born to a middle-class New York family in 1953, he died in a New York jail in 2019. Jeffrey Epstein’s legacy is as disgusting as it is confusing.

In 1974, while lacking any credentials, as, while he studied at NYU for three years, he never obtained his diploma, Epstein was somehow hired as a teacher of high school physics and mathematics at the private Dalton School in New York. He was inappropriate; he once allegedly attended a party thrown by students, where he gave particular attention to the teenage girls present. He was eventually fired in 1976. Luckily for him, Epstein quickly found work through his student’s father: CEO of the Wall Street investment firm “Bear Stearns”, Alan ‘Ace’ Greenberg.

He eventually left Bear Stearns and, in 1982, opened International Assets Group, his own investment firm. What he did exactly as part of his work remains unclear: something about managing assets of wealthy clients. Whatever he did, it went poorly, until 1988 when he opened a new nebulous company ‘J.Epstein and Company’. His only publicly identified client was Leslie H. Wexner, billionaire founder of ´Limited Brands’, parent company of Bath & Body Works and, most notably, Victoria’s Secret.

In the 1990s, Epstein operated his company, now called the ´Financial Trust Company’ out of the Virgin Islands, a known tax haven. Epstein even owned a 70-acre private island in the region, Little St. James.

What are the Epstein Files?

This title is given to the thousands of pages of documents relating to investigations regarding Epstein’s connection to sex trafficking. In 2008 Epstein reached a plea deal for the molestation of a 14-year-old girl in his Palm Beach home. The house was filled with various photos of girls. Epstein was charged with prostitution of a minor and was declared a registered sex offender. Over the course of this investigation, police gathered the statements of several underage girls who alleged getting sexually assaulted by Epstein. Federal prosecutors claim that the abuse started as early as 2002. For these crimes, Epstein was sentenced to only 18 months in a minimum-security facility. He was released after serving less than 13 months. As a matter of fact, he was allowed to leave the facility during the day, coming back to serve his sentence in his sleep, in his unlocked cell.

Epstein’s sex offender status was common knowledge. The Boeing that flew guests onto Little St. James was locally known as the ‘Lolita Express’, given the countless obviously underage girls that were flown in. The island itself was also nicknamed ‘Pedophile Island’. The girls were stuck; the only way to leave the island was by boat or plane. One 15-year-old victim allegedly tried to escape by swimming.

On July 6, 2019, Epstein was arrested for sex trafficking and conspiracy. He was never charged, as he allegedly took his own life in his cell on August 10, 2019.

Why is he still relevant?

As it turns out, Epstein’s new wealth pushed him to join the circles of the upper echelons of American society, including those of Bill Clinton, Woody Allen, and, famously, Donald Trump.

The two men were clearly close for some time. In 2002, Trump described the other man as a ‘terrific guy’ while, several years later, Epstein claimed, ‘I was Donald’s closest friend for 10 years.’ Trump built his political persona by portraying himself as a defender of the people, a no-nonsense, red-blooded American who fought for the interests of Americans in the face of the woke mob. In 2024, Trump promised his voters that he would unveil the elusive Epstein files were he to be elected, yet now he seems to prefer diverting public attention from the affair with his ludicrous behaviour; calling for Obama’s arrest or switching the name of the Washington Commanders back to the ‘Redskins’.

This behaviour proves to be too much even for Trump’s most devoted supporters. Joe Rogan referred to the files as ‘a line in the sand’. The more the president tries to distract from the affair, the more public interest grows; if a convicted felon who claimed that he could ‘shoot somebody in the middle of Fifth Avenue and not lose any voters’ refuses to reveal the contents of the files, what on earth could they possibly contain? Congress recently released over 2 300 emails either sent or received by Epstein. Most notably, Epstein once said of Trump, ‘Of course he knew about the girls’. On the internet, the email which has amassed the most interest is one between Jeffrey Epstein and his brother, Mark Epstein, where it is said that Trump ‘blew Bubba’. With ‘Bubba’ being a known nickname of Bill Clinton, theories and edits went wild. However, Mark Epstein publicly clarified that he was only joking, and that the ‘Bubba’ in question does not refer to the former president. Any pictures or videos of explicit acts between the two presidents currently in circulation are either edited or AI.
